7 vignettes challenge

A few weeks ago I took part in a seven day photo challenge on Instagram, run by Jen Bishop of Interiors Addict. It was so much fun! Each day there was a new theme to create a vignette for. I met lots of new people and got to view some truly stunning shots.

So, I thought I would post them here..

Day 1's theme was Nature and I took the above and the below shot. I was quite pleased with the one below.

Day 4: Flowers/plants. Gosh, I was so happy with this shot! It's OTT but I like it that way :)

Anthropologie love (+more Molly)

Like many of you out there in blogland, I have long admired the goodies at Anthropologie. As the Aussies amongst us know, there is no store in Australia.  Well, I finally took the plunge and bought myself a couple of goodies online recently.

I bought this wonderfully colourful sheet set. I realise it is probably too over the top for the minimalists out there, but I love the fabric and pattern. I decided it was too pretty to cover up with a doona, so I turned the top sheet into a doona cover!

Molly really liked it when I layed it out on the floor. I thought the crazy pattern would also be good at hiding the paw prints that regularly appear on our bed.

Below is the doona and sheets on our bed. And wouldn't you know I caught a naughty, somewhat wet pooch (Molly) up there having come home from paddling in the nearby creek!

 And because I could I added this super cute ceramic punnet thingy in with my order. Pretty no?

Needless to say, I have the Anthro bug. I can't wait to do a spot of shopping there again, one day in person!

A job done

Finally! I have curtains in my studio.
I made some simple sheer curtains that means I get some light and don't have to stare out the window at the car and boat in the driveway. Not the most inspiring view for an art studio :)

When we renovated this room, I chose silver fittings to go with my pale blue and white walls. Little did I know how difficult it is to get silver window fittings, expecially in a heritage style. I had the choice of one! It's a button style and thankfully I like it. Even finding silver finish curtain rod was difficult. "Silver" means a lot of different things it seems and in fact, most of them were an antiqued, brushed finish - not what I was after. Lyndon suggested I check out a metal pipe supplier and I ended up finding a length of marine grade mirror polished satinless steel at about $7 per metre. Great!

Dodgy pic above, but you can see the fittings (and how simple my curtain construction is!).

It's such a relief to get these finished and now I can move onto my next job. I have a length of pale blue linen which I am thinking of making into a chair cover. Do we want to take bets on how long that will take me?

I'm loving neon pink and bright blue at the mo :)

Summer mantel

After the mammoth task of packing away the Christmas decorations I decided to freshen up the loungeroom with a bit of bright colour.

I love decorating the mantelpiece and try to create different looks each time I do it.

This time I have gone for a fresh blue, yellow and white theme with a collection of bottles, Mozi fruit tea lights and flowers from the garden. Loving the dahlias.

I'm also clearly still loving "the stick".

And of course some iceberg roses.

The garden is in between blooms at the moment so there's not a lot out. I love the yellow with the blues though. Must plant more dahlias :)
Well, did you guys have a lovely weekend? I have to say I did. After some pottering in the garden the lovely Kerry and her partner Richard came to visit. That means Kerry is now privy to all the dodgy, fallen down bits at Molly's Maison. We had a great time! On Sunday I went to the farmers market and came home with some lovely flowers, a plant and some fantastic French pastries. Boy, the pastries didn't last long. Lyndon was lucky I didn't eat his!

A pretty table

I was sitting reading the newspaper at the dining table on the weekend and couldn't help myself, I had to get out the camera and take some snaps of the table setting.

The light was so nice and luckily I had borrowed the DSLR from work again.

I know it was a couple of days ago now, but how disappointing was The Block for all the contestants? All that hard work, blood, sweat and tears and the contestants walked away with little (apart from Polly and Waz).

Didn't they all look gorgeous at the auction? I'm sure they'll all go on to do great things, they were such a likeable bunch. My biggest question is what will I watch on tv now?? It's a disaster.

Below is the little camera that I take the photos through to get the vintage effect.

I use a very high tech masking contraption (biscuit box!!) to mask out the light. No expense spared here!!

Well, not me but I am very excited to have 100 followers. Hi to no.100 Leonie! Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your comments - this blogging caper is so much fun!

A fresh look

There hasn't been much renovating going on at Molly's Maison lately so I thought I would freshen up the mantelpiece. Above is another of my paperweights - this one is a contemporary weight by Peter Raos of Aukland, New Zealand, inspired by the artwork of Georgia O'Keefe.

The little vase is by Tasmanian ceramicist Sara Wright and the silver vase is Tord Boontje.

At the other end is another Reter Raos paperweight, this one inspried by Monet's garden. The tiny one is  from the 1980's by a company called Perthshire in Crieff, Scotland. They are no longer producing but I was lucky enough to go there in 1997. The very large green weight hidden by the candle is a Victoria era weight often called a 'dump'. They were made in glass factories producing domestic goods such as bottles and at the end of the week the left over glass was used to make paperweights - just for fun.

The iceberg flowers came from the garden. They are still doing really well. The clock was Lyndon's grandfather's and it's amazing how after a while you don't even hear the loud chime on the hour, even during the night.

Studio update

We worked very hard this weekend to get the shelving part of the storage under way. I am so tired from lifting, cutting and joining endless sheets of 16mm mdf. We now need to do a little smoothing off of some of the edges, join the units all together, put on some backing (the wall behind is very uneven), paint.....ie. lots to do!

These are the cupboard knobs I chose for the doors. An ebay bargain.

Once the unit is finished we then have to do some plastering, get skirting board to match, picture rail, improve lighting etc etc!!
