Goodbye 2011...hello 2012

Lyndon has a theory that you need to finish the year doing something good as it sets the scene for the coming year.

So, the three of us went down to the Kingston dog beach this morning.

It's Molly's idea of heaven.

She is more interested in chasing sticks than she is socialising but I just love seeing all the other dogs.

It was so beautiful down there. Calm and the water wasn't too cold either. No, I didn't swim, just had a little paddle.

I've never been a big fan of New Years Eve celebrations but I have to say I will be celebrating the beginning of a new year tonight. 2011 has left a lot to be desired so I'm looking forward to 2012.

Merewether Beach on a beautiful morning

Last Monday morning at 6.30am I walked down to Merewether Beach, Newcastle to take some early morning pics. Warning : I got a little carried away...

It was a stunning morning on a beautiful beach.

The pic below is looking north towards the city centre.

If you look closely above you will see the big ocean ship waiting on the horizon to go into dock to load up with coal. I counted 10 ships on the horizon that day.

This is Merewether Ocean Baths. It is the largest ocean bath in the Southern Hemisphere.

It was drained for cleaning on this day but I loved the time and weather worn look of it.

I felt so thrilled to see it looking so beautiful as just the next day it was grey and overcast.

It was so beautiful I might just have to post a few more pics later...

Catherine Hill Bay

One the way home from Bugewoi last Sunday we stopped off at a little village called Catherine Hill Bay.

The town got its name from a boat that was shipwrecked on the coast in 1867.

Coal had been mined in the area since 1865 and the jetty above was built from the cliff face into the sea so that the coal could be loaded directly on to a vessel. The town has quite a history of coal mining which continued up until 2002 I believe. Now, it's more of a shack town.

We had to have a drink at the local pub called the Catho. The town is currently fighting against large-scale development and here are signs and banners all down the main street.

Isn't it always the way that sleepy little towns get taken over by greedy developers that have no real care for the lovely lifestyle that the current people enjoy.

I hope the locals win the fight.

Fun at the beach

Molly and I went down to Kingston dog beach the other day.

Needless to say, she had a lot of fun.

I'm not sure if you can see, but my jeans are soaking from the knees down.

Molly's stick kept sinking in the sea and at one point I turned around to see just her tail sticking out of the water - she was snorkeling with her head completely under the water, looking for her submerged stick. Being a good MOD (mother of dog - thanks to Kaite for that one) I rescued the stick for her, but got very wet.

I now have a new job on my to-do list this week, cleaning half of the beach out of my car.

Do you guys have a dog beach where you live?

Beach fun

It was such a nice morning that Molly and I decided to go to Kingston Dog Beach for a play.

"C'mon Mum, throw that ball you have hiding in your pocket".

What a sight!

She had a wonderful time but unfortunately lost her ball in the water (it had fallen apart and sank to the bottom). So, a quick rub down and then shake off excess sand in Mum's car (yay). 

 A nice start to the week. Hope you all have a good one :)

A dog's life

Life is great when you are lucky enough to be Molly.

We've just come back from a visit to dog's beach at Kingston. Molly loves the beach with a passion and so Lyn and I have a good time watching and laughing at her. My car is full of sand now but at least Molly had a great time and we all cooled off a little.

She is now pooped and very content....
