New vintage postcards

One of the best things about being an artist, designer or whatever it is that I am (a whole other post) is sourcing inspiration. I don't tend to do a lot of regular shopping as we are always on a tight budget but I can allow myself some vintage bits and pieces as  legitimate inspiration for my work. Like these wonderful postcards.

These are some of my recent purchases. For a few dollars they are such lovely things. Not all are good for my purposes, but they have become a lovely little collection.

I really like the used ones as they have so much more character, more of a story to tell. Sometimes I might not use the front image, but the writing on the reverse.

See those two at the bottom of the above photo? I have already printed some fabric up to make pouches from the one on the left. I adore the one on the right, but on closer inspection, the writing on the front actually talks about the person having appendicitis!I'm not sure if customers would find that appealing?

Such little treasures from a century ago. I do love them and adore working with them.
Speaking of, today I must get in front of my sewing machine and get some work done!
Thanks for dropping by.

More new scarves

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. I wanted to share some new scarf designs with you. I had ordered these for my market stall a few weeks ago but wouldn't you know, they turned up two days late.

This is the Eiffel Scene scarf. It is the same image as the blue scarf from my first batch, but this is in neutral tones. I had a couple of these made in a Modal fabric (viscose, made from wood!) and they have already sold. The other two are on Etsy :)

Below is my "Correspondance" shawl, also in modal fabric, 28 x 80 inches in size.

The image is the reverse of a postcard.

Below is a close-up. You can see the slightly open weave of the fabric. It is quite soft to feel.

And this is the Zephir and Persephone shawl.

I was actually expecting it to be a bit more black and white than it is, there is quite a bit of colour in there and I am assuming this is just the printing process.

The image actually show the marriage of Zephir and Persephone, with the odd chubby cherub thrown in for good measure.

I'm going to do another order of the first fabrics and get those on Etsy as soon as I can.
Thanks for dropping by!

ps I will be back soon with a bit of Christmas action.

Parisian needlecase

Despite my frustrated efforts to make a prototype Parisian Postcard pouch I eventually gave up (for the time being). Why is it so difficult to get a neutral 15cm long zipper in Hobart? Uggh!
So, I decided to make my mangled bits of fabric into a needlecase.
I stitched it all together, added a nice woolen felt inner and a very old button with a nice old brass shank.

Here is the interior, the image being the reverse side of the postcard.
You can see the original old 1905 postcard in the image.

I rather like it. I haven't given up on my pouch idea, but am thinking a might make a few of these guys for the Etsy store. Still a bit undecided. Opinions welcomed :)

ps thank you SO SO much for your lovely comments about Molly following her operation.
I have passed on all the hugs and pats to her. She is doing well, but has a tendency to want to lick her wounds and scratch all that shaved skin. I can't blame her . The other night she managed to pull out a couple of stitches so off to the vet we went. A bandage, plastic cone thingamy and a sedative later, she came home feeling very sorry for herself. That night was horrendous! No sleep for anyone, the sedative made her very restless. Not fun! Last night was much better and we are off to the vet this morning to have the wound dressed again.
Have a lovely day friends :)

I'll do a follow up post soon x

Paris pendants and a new idea

Well, so much for my weekend of gardening. The weather has been a bit pesky and I have felt cosy and productive inside. I have been trying to get these pendants finished for weeks now and yesterday I made quite a bit of progress. Just the chains to polish and attach to the pendants.
For those who haven't seen them in a previous post, they're made fom vintage optometrist test lenses, images from vintage Pairisan postcards and steel chain.

The Lace pendant below is one I made quite a while ago but am thinking of making a batch. I cannot decide whether to use the chain necklace or attach a satin or velvet ribbon....
Below is the velvet ribbon version...
...and this is the satin ribbon version...
What to you think? I'd love your opinions!
