A corny house and my purple haze

Some of you may have read last year about the Corn House - a house around the corner from us who have planted out their entire front yard in corn.
They have done it again this year and have also lined the front path with sunflowers. I think it looks lovely.

I'd love to know what they do with all the corn, though I have a few ideas. :)
My corn is only about a quarter of the height of theirs. Theirs also has a heap of cobs already.

Just when I though there wasn't much in the fridge for dinner last night I went out to my fairly neglected vegie patch. I dug a saucepan of pinkeyes (which were self-seeded from last year and the waxiest potatoes I think I have eaten - YUM!!) along with butter beans and a handful of quirky purple carrots, called Purple Haze. Aren't they unusual?

You can see by the broken one, they're traditional orange on the inside and even keep their purple colour when they're cooked. Plus, they're yummy. What's not to like?
Here's to a relaxing Sunday
xx

  6. I've never seen purple carrots like that!! Sounds like you've got lots of yummy things growing at the moment even if your corn isn't as impressive as the 'corny house' :) Hope you're enjoying the weekend x

  10. I love the look of the carrots too Sarah. Very beautiful. I tried growing carrots one year but failed failed failed. They tasted like dirt even if they were peeled.

Sarah (above); It is hard to describe how a pink eye tastes, but it is a fairly firm buttery one rather than tasting like a sweet potato or squash. They are very popular and lovely small and new.

  11. How fabulous. I remember running through cornfields that my Dad planted when I was a kid and had the best time. The corn was much taller than me and was a fab hiding place as the rows were soooo long. Thanks for bringing those memories back!
    Don't they share their corn?

I love that you have such fabulous vegies growing Sarah, were your potatoes difficult to grow? We only have tomatoes, strawberries and beans at the moment as caterpillars ate my entire zucchini plant :( Hope you have a fabulous Monday ~ Tina xx

  19. wow, where did you get your hands on those carrots Sarah? ..there was a tv program about a year ago raving on about the benefits of these old fashioned variety ..they are a super food with an abundance of vitamins and the health effects were linked to cancer prevention ... I couldn't find them in any of our fruit and veggie shops though! ... I think it was a current affair show and there was a link to a company who sold the juice from the carrots ...so they are VERY good for you :-)
