Friday flowers

It's Friday! I'm wondering how the last 2.5 weeks have rushed past without a blog post? 

I just feel very very busy and I suppose some things just have to wait. Busy at work, busy at home. I am sewing like mad, trying to get some garments for the wearable art event ready to try on models at the start of August. Not sure there'll be much for them to try on!

I have taken the week after next off work to work on my designs. I've just heard from my printer that my latest fabric order is ready so hopefully that will arrive in time for me to get it cut and sewn, ready for the market on Sunday 28th July. I hate cutting it this close.

So, I have managed a Friday Flowers post. I've had these buds in a vase for weeks and just haven't got around to throwing them out. I like the opposing colours of the red and peach with the green of the vase. The simple composition appeals to me too.

Friday flowers...hyacinths

I know, hold onto your seats people, two posts in one week!

This is for Liz, a good friend who regularly checks my blog out and noted to me that I hadn't posted much lately.

Seeing as this image is a beautiful flower, it's for you all really. Thanks for dropping by, even when I'm being a truly hopeless blogger!

It has been so cold and dreary here in Hobart this week. Today looks like being clear, so that's good. I bought this pot of purple hyacinths last Friday from a local supermarket. I just couldn't walk past them. That big stem on the right snapped off overnight.

Don't you think this pic has a bit of a Scandinavian feel? I overexposed the image to capture the light and make it all feel nice and fresh. The funny pink basket is a Japanese paper Airvase. I like them a lot but never know what to do with them!

Well, time to jump in the shower and go off to the salt mines. Have a great Friday and a fun weekend. I'm working, but thems the breaks.

Friday flower

It seems like such a long time since I have done a Friday Flowers post. At one time I think it's about all I managed to do!

This photo is one that I manipulated with the Snapseed App, the original being part of a group of deconstructed or reconstructed rose shots. I should post the whole lot as I do like them.

I've said it before, I love flowers at every stage of their lives.

Friday flowers ...fading roses

Yay for Friday. This week has seemed a little long, but then I still have a weekend of work to go.

Looking at these beautiful roses makes me feel better.

I take so many photographs these days that I forget what I have shown you all. In fact I am realising now, there are some other shots I should have shown you before these ones, which are when the blooms were almost a week old, Oh well.

I love the frailty of these blooms, with ruffled and slightly bruised edges to their petals.

I could photograph them all day!

Friday flowers...blue

I have been enjoying using my new camera at every opportunity. Suddenly I have so many photos to show you all!

I picked these blue/purple flowers recently and photographed them on a black background. I could snap away all day. So, here we have a tiny viola, lobelia, a cornflower and a salvia bloom. I adore blue flowers and our front yard is full of them.

Well, it has been a busy week with events on at work and my market to get ready for. I'm pooped! Tomorrow is a day off and then Sunday I'll be busy at the market. Then Monday means I have to attend to all the mess I have created during this week!

Friday flowers... Busy bee

I photographed this very busy bee out in the garden the other day.

It was doing circles around a stem of Liatris (or Gay Feather) in my backyard.

Don't you think the colour is beautiful?  After a slow start this plant has done so well this year, with many long, healthy stems - very pleasing to the eye.

I am happy that it's Friday. The Aus tralian Wooden Boat Festival starts today and I am hoping we can pop down after work for a look.

Friday flowers

Thank goodness for Friday - it has been a bit of a manic week. My aim to post more regularly has gone out the window. Oh well.

There really is not much happening in the garden this week. The roses are just starting to come on again and the gladioli are on their way out, so maybe I'll get a garden Friday flower next week.

I am pleased to say it's been over a month now and my orchid is still alive! I am pretty green fingered, but my theory with orchids is to find just the right spot for them and then ignore them a little, but I am not sure with these fancy pants Phalaenopsis types. I think the right light and a water once a week is the go. So far so good.

Well, it's Australia Day tomorrow and that of course means a long weekend. Unfortunately for me I am working this weekend so I will be looking forward to Monday :)

Friday flowers... blue and green

It's been a whole week without a post! I thought I was doing well regarding my blogging but work just gets in the way, darn it.

I picked up these agapanthus at the local farmers market last Sunday and they are doing well. I love the colour against my lovely painting. Don't they say that blue and green should never be seen? I love it as a colour combo.

 

I'm very happy to have this weekend off work. I have a few jobs to do but hopefully some fun things as well. I plan of getting back here early next week with a call out for the new Good Mail Club mailout, so have a think about joining in. It's a Valentines theme this time :)

Friday flowers - Bleached beauty

Phew, it's Friday! These last few days back at work have been a chore!

So, here's some Friday Flowers. I took these pics of some beautiful delphiniums with my new camera, intentionally over exposing them. I'm really happy with the results. I'm even thinking of printing up one big.

Friday flowers... mixed bunch

It's Friday again already (thank goodness!) and I haven't posted all week. To be honest I am feeling a bit frazzled by all the things I have to get done at the moment. Mostly it's art market preparations and I will share those with you all soon.

So, Friday flowers is a mixed bunch today. I have taken these shots over the past week and wanted to pop them in here. Many of you will have seen them on Instagram already.

The David Austin Jubilee Celebration rose (one of my faves) above has been photographed in a little bottle given to me by a lovely friend recently. I strung it from the picture rail on some neon pink brickies twine. Love it!

These fabulous blue hydrangeas came from Coles Supermarket the other week. I tried to talk myself out of buying them but it just didn't work. I must have looked silly standing there having a conversation with myself. That blue is amazing! Now I have to plant it in the garden and hope it keeps that colour. I have some chemical to water in that should help (can't remember what it is though).

These lupins came from the farmers market last Sunday. They went pretty limp pretty quickly but I still like the look of them.

 It is such a nice time in the garden at the moment. I love having roses I can pick to bring inside. You should see my fence of Iceberg roses. They are really looking great.

Friday flowers... the roses are blooming

Yay for Friday. I'm so happy to see the roses in my garden are all starting to bloom. I find it really exciting, even if I have seen them all before. I didn't plant any new roses this year, maybe I'll squeeze in one or two new ones next year?

Above is potentially my favourite, Scentimental. I have posted this rose numerous times on this blog. I just adore it and it always reminds me of my beloved Auntie Ila. I think I've told the story before that when I was visiting with her some friends dropped in with a big bunch of roses from their garden and this rose was amongst them. I had to add it to my garden. You should too! It is the healthiest rose, flowers so well. You just can't beat it.

Above is Pascali. I grew this from a cutting I took from Auntie Ila's garden quite a few years ago. It is a perfect bud, but in a bit of warmth tends to blow open very quickly. Its stamens are very beautiful though :)

Above is the David Austin rose, Lady of Megginch. The form and colour of this rose is absolutely stunning, but it only has quite a faint fragrance. It let is off due to its beauty.

And lastly, another rose I have posted quite a few times before. This is Angel Face. The colour is beautiful and sometimes the edges get a darker tint. I like this against the textures of the old, crappy fence.

My hedge of Iceberg roses along the front fence have SO many buds, they are about to explode into bloom. Exciting. I will take some pics soon.

Friday flowers...poppies

Having a conversation?

Friday flowers today is a bunch of poppies that I bought almost 2 weeks ago. They are just hanging on, most have dropped, but I have enjoyed their company immensely!

Well, it's really Monday but I thought I'd stretch it out a bit. I'm not planning much, just a family dinner, some cake and Lyn has promised me dinner out (we rarely do this!).

Friday flowers

What a rainy, grey day it is down here in Hobart this morning.

So here's something nice and cheery for you all. I bought a bunch of anemone last weekend and have been enjoying them ever since. I love the colours and the ruffly green collars they wear too.

I thought I'd share this beautiful painting created by my niece Nicola. I love the colours and big, bold shapes.

And another of some flowers and a tree under a rainbow. Children's art is lovely!

Friday flower... rosebud

Hello all, a simple Friday Flowers today.

We have had a lot of very gusty wind recently and thanks to an outdoor chair that blew into the garden and hit my David Austin Ambridge Rose, I found this small rosebud broken off. This was rather disappointing as this bud will never become a big, ruffly rose. *sigh*

Friday flowers...more tulips

Happy Friday to you all friends. I am still a bit obsessed by my tulips and cannot stop photographing them. I have been so lazy with my blogging and had planned a bigger post on this, so maybe next week.

Above is the first of my new bulbs that I planted earlier this year. I planted a bunch of purple and lemon tulips out the front and was surprised to see this one looking very magenta in colour. Still very beautiful. Of course his mates are well behind him and it will be a while before they're out.

Why is it as soon as the tulips come out the winds also come, blowing them to bits? That's Spring I suppose :)

My obsession with shadows also continues :)

I hope you all have a fab weekend. I'm working but thems the breaks - but having said that, work on Sunday involves a mini function with lots of scones and sweet treats. No bad.

Friday flowers...a very late, or early rose

This is Ambridge Rose, a lovely David Austin that I planted last winter. It has been pretty slow to get going and I was surprised that it has decided to flower now. I am assuming it's just very late and not very early for spring?

The garden really is looking pretty scrappy at the moment, but I suppose that's fair, it being winter and all :)

The bulbs are the one thing that are doing well. This is the front path and at the moment it's full of earlicheer and daffs.

My iTouch camera doesn't cope well with high contrast but you get the idea.

I have been photographing a bunch or tulips every day this week, you can see them in my instagram feed on the right. I'm still snapping away so will post those next week.

Well, almost the weekend. I'm meeting up with the girls after work today so looking forward to that, but have a busy weekend at work ahead.

How about you? I hope it's more relaxing than me.

Friday flowers and very exciting news!

It's an exciting day today with green blooms and happy news.

Why is that, you ask?

My little niece Hannah was born today :)

Happy Birthday Hannah. Welcome to the world!

Very grainy pics but it wasn't very bright in the room.

And the flowers, they were for my sister. Lots of green and white - kale, lilies, spider chrysanthemums and green carnations with magnolia leaves. A bit different I thought.

Friday flowers... hyacinths

Who's looking forward to the weekend?

I am! Hopefully we can fit in some relaxing, a spot of gardening and an little outing.

This Friday I wanted to show you how my lovely blue hyacinths are growing.

A couple have just taken off and are well ahead than the others. They're so thick with flowers too! Not to mention the amazing fragrance!

I'm so pleased with them :)

Friday flowers... Angel Face

Hello friends!

 Thank goodness for Friday! My word, I have had the most exhausting week at work, hanging 270 artworks in 2 buildings. I feel a bit rabid! My brain is frazzled and my muscles are sore from climbing up and down ladders and lifting heavy frames. It is all go work-wise until Sunday evening when I can finally relax and have 2 wonderful days off. I can't wait!

Instagram friends will have seen my Angel Face rose, one of the few left in the garden. It's such a pretty colour and I like it against the rough texture of the old fence, but just look at the blackspot!

 Here's an update shot of my hyacinths, still growing in their vase. I was thinking they weren't going to be the blue they were packaged as, but I can see them colouring up now. Won't be too long before they're in bloom. I am most definitely growing more of these next year. I think they'd make a wonderful mantel display if planted in rustic tins - though the heat of the woodfire might get to them.

Well, Bits and bobs.... I really enjoyed it last Monday and loved seeing what you came up with. It was nice to see some pics on Instagram as well.

I had originally thought I might do it monthly, but I'm thinking now that fortnightly might be better, though having said that I think I will have another go on Monday coming. What do you think? I hope some of you can join in again and then maybe I will then go back to a fortnightly routine :)
