What was I thinking...

...when I ordered more bulbs for the garden?!! Everyone has read my complaints about having far too many bulbs to plant and how I am never getting through them.

Well, I couldn't help myself and ordered some lovely white Regale Lilliums (the nice fragrant white ones) and a pretty pink calla lily for the backyard patch. The even crazier news is that I have just finished planting the whole lot of them! Of course I now have no idea where anything is.
I have tried to go in colour themes - the front yard is yellows, whites, blues, mauves with a splash of orange and the backyard is full of pinks, reds, purple and anything else that doesn't fit out the front.
It's looking very patchy but that's a winter garden for you. I'm having fun working out what David Austin roses to plant and am hoping my hollyhocks and foxglove don't get obliterated by the slugs (I'm not a fan of snail pellets).
Now all I have to do it sit back and wait for it all to happen!

ps I did find time today for a lovely French vanilla slice at a cute cafe with my friend Leonie. How cool is the Hipstermatic camera application on her iPhone? And why don't I remember to brush my hair before I go out in public??!
Back in a few days with my new tipshop mini-project :-)

The Tip Shop! One of Hobart's greatest institutions. When I moved to Brisbane I went to the nearest tip to look for the shop... and there was no shop, just rubbish. So sad. Look forward to seeing what you ocme up with.

Ps sorry I haven't passed on your meme, just flat out with 35628 other things this week.

  6. Your garden is going to look stunning in spring Sarah! I love the idea of planting and forgetting where things are then getting a lovely surprise. Ooh did you find something exciting at the tip shop? I haven't had much luck at all lately. Oh yeah the hipstamatic is so much fun isn't it!

  8. Try crushing up egg shells fine and sprinkling them around the bases of the hollyhock & foxglove (only looks unsightly until the plants grow). Slugs (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) have soft bodies and the shells cut them. I've also heard of people using a copper tape that gives off some type of static charge. Zap!! No slug....yeah!

  10. you can easily see that Anne Marie ain't no real gardener!! i use Multicrop snail pellets, they're made of ferrous something and aren't harmful to animals or birds or worms. i used to get them in Hbt too.
The bulb flowers will be lovely in Spring, the real problem will come next year when you have twice as many to plant as they multiply.
And my garden is full of leaves as i have just sooo many deciduous trees here...k.

  22. Isn't that the fun of bulbs? As soon as you plant them you have no idea where they are and then they all burst forth! If it were me I'd be sure to have a bald spot somewhere or one rogue colour in the middle of my colour block. But thats the joy of gardening too I think. xx

Vanilla Slice is one of my favourite sweet things too - the best one I ever tasted was when we were on our Tassie roadtrip and stopped at the bakery in Ross - divine!!! :)
